Most move-out disputes aren't about the obvious stuff — everyone remembers to vacuum and take out the trash. It's the smaller, easy-to-miss spots that landlords tend to check first.
Inside cabinets and drawers
Crumbs, dust, and shelf-liner residue inside kitchen and bathroom cabinets are one of the first things a landlord or property manager checks, precisely because they're easy for tenants to overlook.
Behind and underneath appliances
The fridge, stove, and washer/dryer all hide dust, spills, and sometimes forgotten items behind and beneath them. Sliding them out (carefully) to clean underneath is one of the most commonly skipped steps in a move-out clean.
Baseboards and light switch plates
These collect a surprising amount of grime over the length of a lease and are one of the easiest things to check at a glance during a walkthrough — which is exactly why they matter more than their size suggests.
Window tracks and blinds
Dust and debris build up in window tracks in a way that's invisible from a normal standing height but obvious the moment someone opens a window.
None of this needs to be a guessing game — a walkthrough with the actual move-out checklist your lease references is the safest way to know exactly what's being inspected.
